Malaysia’s Business Events Industry Surges Ahead with New, Unique Experiential Rewards Programme

KUALA LUMPUR, 10 October 2019: Malaysia returns to Barcelona for the ninth consecutive year at the IBTM World 2019. For 32 years, IBTM World has been providing the global community with the inspiration, business connections and content needed in order to create world-class events. the leading global event for the meetings and events industry will take place at Barcelona, Spain from 19-21 November 2019.

We are delighted to be part of this occasion once again and look forward to meeting the world's biggest players," said Datuk Zulkefli Hj. Sharif, Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), an agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC).

Datuk Zulkefli will also be sharing new products and developments available in Malaysia that will enhance the country's offerings to the business events industry as well as entice event planners and organisers to hold their meetings, corporate and incentives groups, conferences and exhibitions.

"While 2018 recorded an overwhelming total of 152 secured business events contributing around 118,735 number of delegates raking in a notable RM 1.58 billion in estimated economic impact to the country, it is a good indication that Malaysia is getting a stronger hold of the business events industry," added Datuk Zulkefli.

Getting the most from Malaysia's offerings

Malaysia is set to introduce 10 new hotels throughout the country by December 2019 catering to business travellers. Venues that have already opened its doors to travellers include Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur, featuring 209 guest rooms and suites, as well as serviced apartments for guests looking for an extended stay, and Four Seasons Private Residences. Four Seasons Place is part of Kuala Lumpur City Centre, a 40-hectare (100 acre) complex with more upscale shopping, fine dining and vibrant nightlife next to a 20 hectare (50 acre) urban green park.

Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) the largest waterfront purpose-built facility in East Malaysia is set to be North Borneo’s most iconic venue in 2020. Spread over five levels, SICC features column-free convention hall with a retractable partition system dividing into three sections offering a combined floor space of 6,800m². On a separate level, three contiguous exhibit halls encompassing a 5,300m² #event space plus six meeting rooms and private VVIP lounge. The top floor is dedicated to 12 private #meeting rooms while on level three; a world-class Performing Arts Hall with seating capacity of 1,250 in a two-tier amphitheatre accompanied by four VVIP rooms and lounges. Connecting to the main lobby, an outdoor plaza of 7,000m² sits against a backdrop of islands and the South China Sea offering the best sunset spot in Kota Kinabalu city.

New hotels and upcoming developments 2018-2022

In 2018, Kuala Lumpur saw the opening of 7 hotels. Some of them are:

  • W Hotel Kuala Lumpur
    features 152 stylish guest rooms and suites, including two WOW suites and the lavish Extreme WOW Suite.

  • Pavilion Hotel Kuala Lumpur
    features 325 rooms and suites decked in contemporary décor.

  • Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur
    Features 209 guest rooms and suites, as well as serviced apartments for those guests looking for an extended stay, and Four Seasons Private Residences. Four Seasons Place is part of Kuala Lumpur City Centre, a 40-hectare (100 acre) complex with more upscale shopping, fine dining and vibrant nightlife next to a 20 hectare (50 acre) urban green park.

  • Alila Bangsar
    Convenient access to the Bangsar LRT station, 143 rooms—including Studio rooms and Suites—which occupies the topmost floors of the building known as The EST, a dedicated butler station on every floor, five dining spaces (including a rooftop pool bar).

  • The Ruma Hotel and Residences
    Features 253 luxuriously appointed guest rooms and suites. A stay will inspire you to uncover the city’s origins and colonial heritage in a contemporary and luxurious setting that exudes the soothing qualities of a true urban resort.

By the end of this year, 10 new hotels are slated to open nationwide:

  • Kuala Lumpur will see six new hotels and residences. EQ Hotel launched in Q2 with 440 rooms and 6 meeting rooms.
  • Johor will see two new hotels, one of them being Anantara Desaru Resort & Villas in Q3, which will have 90 rooms and three meeting rooms.
  • Sabah will see two new hotels, among them New World Kota Kinabalu Hotel with 400 rooms and Alila Dalit Bay with 152 rooms.

In 2020, 11 hotels will be open and 2022, two new hotels, Aloft Seri Kembangan and Radisson Red Kuala Lumpur City Centre.

MyCEB will be leading the Malaysian delegation at IBTM World 2019. Among the Malaysian delegation this year includes Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau, Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Sabah International Convention Centre, Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur Hotel, Berjaya Hotels & Resorts, Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur Hotel, Panorama Holidays, Asian Trails (M), and Asian Overland.
